The drawing symbol displays if the drawing symbol assignment is parallel to the viewing/cutting plane. If the viewing/cutting plane in not parallel to the drawing symbol, the model representation is drawn.

Compound cells can easily handle view dependent drawing symbols, however a lot of legacy content has been developed using the view independent graphics. Bentley continues work to enable users to easily create and manage the view dependent drawing symbols.
